The size and complexity of IGT components pose unique challenges. These massive engines can be as large as multistory buildings and generate over 500 megawatts of power—enough to supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes. Their components are equally massive. IGT turbine airfoils, for instance, share many of the same design complexities as aerospace airfoils, but with some measuring over four feet in length. Casting these parts requires advanced equipment, well-developed and specialized processes, and robust control to ensure consistent material integrity and dimensional precision.
